You know how most baby animals will stand up and take a few steps right away after birth? Apparently we humans have the same instinct, though we've lost the ability to actually do it. The public health nurse told us about this, but I didn't really believe her until our doctor's appointment last week (for Wil's one month checkup).
The doc held him upright above the exam table, and waited until he stretched his legs downwards and then lowered him a wee bit to put some weight on his feet.
And then he took three steps.
It was amazing. Gangly and awkward-looking also, but amazing. He lifted his feet up to about his knees and plopped them back down in turn. He probably would have taken more steps but the doc had seen whatever it was she was looking for and then put him back down to carry on with the rest of the exam.
Pretty cool, huh? Too bad I can't seem to get him to do it again.
