We've been starting to go look at baby things... one of the first things to worry about is (of course) a baby seat for the car, as they won't let you leave the hospital without one. Since safety regulations in Canada are flippin' ridiculous these days (you need some form of car seat until eight years old - no Rod, I wasn't just making that up), we've been trying to figure out the pros and cons of buying a good convertible seat vs. buying different seats as the child grows. Convertible seats cost less in the long run if you're only having one child, but are more expensive up front and not totally ideal for infants... and if you have more than one child, you'll need to buy more than one expensive seat. On the other hand, it seems that a ton of people who buy separate rear-facing seats find that their kids outgrow them (there are both height AND weight restrictions) and they need to buy a convertible one anyways. We've been hunting for a rear-facing seat with a good range in height and weight (especially since this might be a big baby... I'm still hoping he's just tall (and skinny) like his daddy), but haven't found anything that I'm even remotely confident we could use for a full year, until we can switch to a forward-facing seat.
We were discussing this last night, and I was waffling some more about which way to go, when Matt made the suggestion to just buy the rear-facing seat, and our next child could use it when we switch the first one to a forward-facing seat at one year old.
Um.
I think either he didn't do the math on that one ahead of time, or it came out wrong. Because he's not suggesting that I get pregnant again when our baby is three months old, making me deal with both sleep deprivation and first-trimester exhaustion at the same time, AND being in my third trimester over the summer again which I am already hating as I am swollen and hot all the time, right Matt? Right? RIGHT?
