Today is the Third Annual Eat an Animal for PETA day! That's the real PETA, not People for the Eating of Tasty Animals, as we like to say around here. Hmm, that reminds me, I have to make myself a fake-PETA membership card sometime soon.
While I can somewhat understand where PETA is coming from, their methods leave a lot to be desired. Eat an Animal for PETA day was born out of disgust over PETA's campaign comparing animals at slaughterhouses to Jews in concentration camps in the second world war, using Holocaust terminology and quotes. I have my own peeve with PETA - they ran some ads involving Santa Claus and supposed impotence caused by consuming animal products. Kids see Santa at Christmastime and pay attention; how do the poor parents explain what that ad meant?
