I've been pretty busy trying to get caught up at work before my supervisor leaves tomorrow for Europe for two months. Nice timing on the surgery, there, Tamara!
Recovery:Coming along nicely. I can move around pretty well now (though running is a bit painful as I found out last night while givin'er trying to catch a bus). The incisions are healing pretty well. I went for my post-op checkup on Monday and got told no booze for a month. Booooo! I mean, really, I know my liver has to adjust to doing the gall bladder's job for it, but should I, at the same time, make it adjust to a distinct lack of booze? I think not! Anyway, I could've really used a drink Monday night to drown my sorrows, which brings me to my next point...
The Calgary Flames: I am obviously bummed that they lost. In the bizarre chance one of them ever reads this, I want to say thanks for the great ride. It was a hell of a run! You will always be champions in my mind.
Harry Potter Movie: Really enjoyed it. Amazed I didn't have nightmares about spiders on rollerskates afterwards, though. It's amazing how much some of the young actors have changed since the last movie (especially Neville and Draco). Loved Alan Rickman (as always) and David Thewlis and Emma Thompson. Apparently sitting quietly in a movie theatre is a fun recovery activity, we've been doing it a lot lately.
The Day After Tomorrow: Actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I'm going to get the book that inspired it out of the library and give it a read. Some of the science in the film is actually true; though perhaps (ok, ok, definitely) exaggerated in time scale. At least, I hope so. More than anything else, this movie left me with a strong desire to stock up on canned goods and heavy wooden furniture (to burn).
Response from Canadian Heritage: I actually got a (almost-form) letter in the mail thanking me for sharing my views with the minister for Canadian Heritage re: copyright law. Very surprising. I don't think it actually did anything, in any case. I don't understand why they didn't save the 49 cents and just email me instead. Oh yes, that's right, there's an election on and they're trying to show they care.
I think that's all I've got for now. I keep meaning to blog but it's been pretty busy lately. I can't decide if I want to get into politics here or not, though I do have a lot to say about the election. On one hand, since no one can respond here, I'd always get the last word. However, my email address is right there on the left hand side of the page, and anyone could email me nasty messages. I guess I'm a bit shy after what happened on my favorite chat board - people got talking politics and someone implied that Conservative supporters were comparable to Nazis. Riiiiight. I had been avoiding the thread, knowing how left-leaning the board was, but when I saw that I had to respond. I was pretty pissed off. She said it was a joke, but there's a reason why no one tells jokes about black people or Oriental people or Jewish people or even blondes anymore. Why? Because they're offensive. Remember kids, an offensive joke is still offensive.
Anyway, I wish people would realize that although there are a few wingnuts in the Conservative party (and unfortunately, the media justloves them), there are many, many supporters such as myself who like their fiscal policies, electoral reform policies, defense policies, agricultural policies, and others, but do also support a woman's right to choose and the rights of gays to marry. And anyone who thinks abortion is going to be outlawed is delusional. It would be political suicide, and Stephen Harper's not stupid.
Speaking of Stephen Harper, I saw this bizarre and hilarious cartoon online: Harperman!
